For my slab project I did two characters from the Legend of Zelda series. The main character is Toon Link, a animated version of Link. The other character is an evil, mirror image of Toon Link Simply called Dark Toon Link. Sadly, in my rush out of the door in class I left behind the slabs before I could get a picture.
My final project was inspired by M.C Escher. A friend had done a piece inspired by him, so I decided to check him out. I researched his most famous pieces, and I came across his one "Relativity". It's the painting with the multiple staircases going in random directions. It inspired me to make a piece of art like those staircases. It consisted of the base of it having stairs that lead upwards, a staircase attached to the landing of the base that lead backwards and "up", and a tiny staircase that on the landing of the second one, lead upwards. I was pressed for time and limited with resources, so I decided upon making a half size project of what I wanted to originally.
My food specific project is a plate that is designed for neatness. It's a plate with a rim so it hold foods somewhat
For my lidded vessel, I got the idea to do and incense holder. My friend recently got an incense holder that had a really cool lid to it, that allowed the incense to escape, but also provided a means to a bit of safety. It accidently got broken, so I decided to make him a new one. He loves Batman, so I incorporated Batman into this project. I cut out the Batman symbol for the holes in the lid, and I glazed it accordantly. I glazed the outside black, with a yellow inside, and I made the Batman symbols in the inside with black glaze, to give it a shadow effect as if the holes are making the symbols.
This cup is the first attempt at the three. It gave me a lot of struggles with building the handle, as it kept breaking and falling apart. Eventually I decided to just bisque fire them and apoxy them on later. It's almost completed, the picture on the left shows my handle pieces 2 steps away from being completed. The piece below is the finished cup. I had to super glue the handle at a different angle then I wanted to because it broke off. It works rather nicely however. it's surprisingly ergonomic. This is my second cup. I got the idea to make a funnel shape cup, and turn it into a tornado, glazing the inside so it is functional, but painting the outside for better detail. Below I made a base which is painted to resemble a street with some houses, and the tornado ripping up the road in the middle. I wanted to make it so if someone made a drink in this cup, and they stirred it, it would "create" the tornado. The cup below is the finished tornado cup glued together. The small point of contact broke and was difficult to get glued, but eventually I got it to stick. This piece is my third cup. I made it small and simple, but I added a cool glazed design to it to attract people.
I chose this piece because of the smokey effect the upper glaze had on the bottom. It looks like it's a gas that's slowly pouring down the mug and I think that looks amazing. I also like the green and blue'ish colors that they used.
Upon searching for cool glazes this was one of the first pieces that I saw. I love the blue colors. The top layer is an amazing light hue while the bottom is a beautiful dark, deep blue. Especially the meeting of the two, I love the mash up it made. It almost gives it a liquid look.
This is a Legend of Zelda inspired mug. Specifically, the game "Majora's Mask". The image on the front is the final stage in the final boss fight. The image in the background is the mask that the game revolves around. I like this mug because simply it's derived from the game and it's one of my most favorite games ever.
This is a mug from a company called MugsnKisses. I love this piece of art because of the nostalgia it brings when I see it. Video games have been a major part of my life, so this mug is so awesome to me. It makes me want to go out and buy another one so I can relive my childhood.
